About this template
The KWL chart is a simple reading and research strategy used in classrooms from elementary school to college. Before you start, list what you already Know and what you Want to find out; after reading or a lesson, fill in what you Learned and check it against your questions. The summary line at the bottom captures the main takeaway.
How to use it
- Fill in K and W before reading — that's what makes the reading active.
- Turn each item in W into a question you can answer.
- In L, note which W questions are still open and where to look next.
